Mee Sindhutai Sapkal, a Marathi bio-pic inspired by the true story of renowned social activist Sindhutai Sapkal, will have its world television premiere on Zee Marathi on Sunday, 24th July @ 7.00 pm. Directed by well known bollywood director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, the film is a truly inspirational journey of a survival of Sindhutai Sapkal who grew up in extreme conditions & survived through an unimaginable pain throughout her life and became a social activist after a traumatic life.
She was brought up in abject poverty. Got married at the age of 9. Her husband abandoned her at the age of 20, and she left home with her infant daughter. She later donated her biological child to the trust Shrimant Dagdu sheth halwai, Pune, only to eliminate the feeling of partiality between her daughter and the adopted ones. As of 1998 Sindhutai Sapkal has nurtured about 1042 orphaned children. Many of the children that she adopted are well educated lawyers and doctors, and some including her biological daughter are running their independent orphanages.
“Mee Sindhutai Sapkal” has got huge critical acclaim throughout the world & has won many prestigious awards nationally & internationally. The film successfully portrays the struggle and actual events of Sindhutaai’s life on screen. Tejaswini Pandit, the lead actress of the film got highly positive response for her remarkable performance as Sindhutai Sapkal. The film has bagged the national awards for best adapted screenplay and best dialogues. Sindhutai's story is almost an allegorical tale which mirrors the fate of millions of exploited women; worldwide. Along with Tejaswini Pandit; Jyoti Chandekar, Upendra Limaye, Neena Kulkarni, Suhas Palshikar, Charushila Sable, Jayawant Wadkar are playing important parts in the film. The film is directed by well known actor – director Ananth Mahadevan.
